Title: Applications of magnetic fluid to production engineering-Roughness control with magnetic fluid grinding and magnetic fluid texturing

Abstract: In order to control tribological properties as friction, wear, vibration at interface between two machine parts, they require not only smooth surface but also rough surface with well-arranged asperities. However, in traditional manufacturing techniques in production engineering, surface roughness and shape of several parts could not be controlled sufficiently. In order to overcome such problems, magnetic fluid was applied to the polishing of advanced ceramic balls for ceramic ball bearing and the texturing of a magnetic rigid disk for magnetic disk drive system. In this report, both principles and fundamental properties are introduced.
