Abstract: | Use of silane treated fillers in chemical curing Bisphenol A-Glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) based dental composites has been found to improve the properties appreciably. The nature and concentration of the silane used is found to be critical in deciding the final properties. However, water sorption does not seem to be, considerably affected by varying silane concentration. Morphology of the fractured surface indicates that composites containing 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (TSPM) treated fillers provide, better filler-matrix compatibility resulting in better strength characteristics. |
