Abstract: The Knoevenagel type condensation reactions of 1,2-naphthoquinone with imidazolidinone, thiazolidinone and isoxazolone derivatives have been described. The synthesized products have been characterized by physical and spectroscopic techniques. DFT calculation revealed that the heat of formation (∆Hf) of monocondensation products are much lower than the corresponding biscondensation products, suggesting their feasibility and thermodynamic stability. Newly synthesized products show significant antibacterial and antifungal activity.
