Abstract: Microcrystalline cellulose from two different locally available lignocellulosic materials, namely bagasse and rice straw has been prepared by simple process of hydrolysis. The different characteristics of prepared microcrystalline cellulose were determined and are found to be comparable with the characteristics of commercially available microcrystalline cellulose and the specifications given by Indian Standards.
