|Title:||Another look at Periodica Abbreviata|
|Authors:||Malwad, N M|
|Abstract:||The abbreviations of titles of periodicals given in the 4th edition of the World List have aroused keen interest, as they are based on the forthcoming British standard on the subject. These abbreviations are compared here with those of the Chemical Abstracts system. Excepting on one important question. i. e., in the use of 'colloquial' abbreviations, they have many things in common. It Is suggested that efforts can still be made to reconcile these two systems and bring about a really universal system of abbreviations which will be acceptable to authors, editors, bibliographers and librarians, alike. Further, formulation of a scheme of abbreviation is only one side of the picture. Efforts should also be made for Its adoption and use by all parties concerned.|
