Title: A note on the idea gene and its relevance to information science
Authors: Sen, S K
Issue Date: Mar-1981
Publisher: NISCAIR-CSIR, India
Abstract: An attempt has been made to draw attention to the process of growth of knowledge being similar to the process of biological evolution as featured by neo-Darwinism. The idea of memes or idea genes as proposed by Richard Dawkins has been reported and its possible relevance and application to information science, especially for propounding a general theory of information growth, indexing and classification have been considered. Need to shift the focus of interest from the documents or units of literature to the concepts have been stressed.
