Abstract: Investigates alcohol fuel literature (1901-1980) in terms of forms of publications, countries contributing to the field, the type of publications in which the literature is scattered and correlation between research productivity of an author and breadth of the research interest, using Alcohol Fuels Bibliography brought out by the US, Department of Energy. The study reveals that there was a slow growth in the alcohol fuel literature during 1901-1970; but there was a rapid rise in literature especially in the use of alcohol as a vehicle fuel presumably due to oil price hike. It is further noted that this area has not been an area where publications relate to high scientific activity as most of the articles are reported in popular journals. The study also shows that in this area there is a positive and strong relationship between research productivity and breadth of research interest of the authors.
