Abstract: The studies conducted by various workers on natural occurrence, diagnosis and management of viral diseases of Betelvine (Piper betle L.) were reviewed to understand about the types of viruses which mostly infect the plant and affect the commercial production of the crop in India as well as in other Asian countries, Tobamo, Poty, Cucumo and Badna viruses are main groups of viruses which were found to occur naturally on Betelvine. Development of ELISA, Western blot immuno assay and RT-PCR diagnostic systems were suggested for sensitive and reliable detection of these viruses on planting materials as well as in Betelvine leaves (to be exported) so that further spread of viruses may be checked and virus free Betelvine may be produced.
