Abstract: The identification of individual dimethyl naphthalenes which have very closely lying electronic transitions could be well distinguished by using a new technique second derivative synchronous excitation fluorescence spectroscopy (SDSEFS). It can be treated as a general analytical method for the identification of any two molecules, which have very closely lying electronic transitions. A commercially obtained dimethyl mixture is analyzed and its significant component molecules could be identified.
