Abstract: The infrared absorption spectra of some selected ternary glasses and their glass-ceramic derivatives from the system Li2O-B2O3-Al2O3 have been measured in the spectral range 200-4000 cm-1 before and after successive gamma rays irradiation. Vibrational and crystallization techniques are employed to investigate the structure and phases which are found in this system by controlled crystallization. The role of Al2O3 in the structure and the crystallization behaviour of the system has been discussed. The effect of gamma rays on the surface of the glasses and glass-ceramics as revealed from infrared spectroscopy is discussed.
