Abstract: The nature of precipitant alkali is found to influence the settled volume, bulk density, particle size and zeta potential of chromic hydroxide generated. MgO when used as a precipitant alkali, gives rise to particles of higher density compared to other alkalies and hence least settled volume. The sonication influences the zeta potential of chromic hydroxide generated when MgO and NaOH are used, but no influence has been found when Na2CO3 is used. The colour of the chromic hydroxide generated varies with the nature of precipitant alkali, indicating thereby the varying degree of polymerization.
