Title: Evaluation of Furosemide-loaded Polymethylmethacrylate Microparticles

Abstract: The preparation of furosemide-loaded polymethylmethacrylate microparticles by a modified emulsion solvent evaporation technique where the costly and hazardous organic solvents are largely replaced by water is described. The compatibility of the drug with the polymer is judged by TLC, IR, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. The effect of different formulation variables on morphology, particle size distribution, drug entrapment efficiency and drug release behavior of the microparticles is reported. The in-vitro results show that the microparticulate dosage form provides controlled release of the drug when compared with conventional tablets.
