Abstract: This paper presents an analytical diagnostic tool for energy audit of industrial utilities. The overall circuit efficiency (which is the transfer function relating the input energy to the energy used at the end point) is determined as a product of the segment energy efficiencies using experimental plant data as inputs. These component efficiencies will provide clear information on the pattern of energy losses and will aid in decision support for evolution of energy conservation measures. It has been utilized for steam, air conditioning (cooling), compressed air, and water pumping systems. The technique does not address exergetic losses.
