Abstract: Field strength measurements were conducted in the moving train in the UHF band in the urban and sub-urban regions of western India. The observed signal levels were compared with those predicted from methods like Hata, Walfish and Bertoni, Uniform theory of diffract ion, Ibrahim and Parsons, Egli and Blomquist and Ladell and suitable methods were identified. These studies will be useful for designing future train mobile communication systems and also for assessing the interference potential of base stations for electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility and spectrum management applications.
