Abstract: The influence of opening roller speed and sliver preparation on the properties of viscose OE rotor yarns spun from the fibres of different linear densities at high rotor speeds has been studied. It is observed that the fine fibres offer significant advantage in regard to yarn tenacity, breaking extension, work of rupture, abrasion resistance and mass irregularity. Each of these quality parameters improves initially but deteriorates thereafter as the opening roller speed is further increased beyond the optimum level. The rate of decline in the properties is greater when the yarns are produced at higher rotor speeds. Such decline in the properties at higher rotor and opening roller speeds is, however, more marked in yarns spun with single passage drawframe sliver.
