Abstract: Commercially available Indian multivoltine and bivoltine cocoons have been tested for the physical and mechanical properties of the filament. The denier of the cocoon filament decreases along its length. The correlation between filament denier and tenacity is significant but negative, while that between filament denier and elongation, significant and positive . Filament denier and filament length show quadratic relationship. Among the bivoltine cocoons, KA, NB7×NB18 and NB4D2×KA show significantly higher values of physical properties. Multivoltine crossbreed cocoons show significantly lower values of physical properties.
