Title: A new insight into the rheological properties of alginates and carboxymethyl starches for printing of reactive colours

Abstract: Alginate (Manutex Rs-230) and different carboxymethyl starch (CMS) samples with different degrees of substitution have been compared from rheological point of view to establish whether Alginate could be substituted with CMS. It is observed that one CMS paste (9.5% MT-3) closely matches with 3.5% Alginate in rheological properties as well as printing performance. Technique of prediction of printing behaviour from rheological angle is also discussed.
