dc.description.abstractSeveral bis-[N-benzylidene]benzidines [(p-R-C6H4CH=N-)2 benzidine, R = H(a), CH3(b), OCH3(c), NMe2(d), Cl(e) and NO2(f)] have been synthesised and reacted with Hg(OAc)2 in boiling dry MeOH followed by the addition of LiCl to yield tetramercuric derivatives. The structural characterisation of chloro organomercurials 2 are carried out by IR and 1H NMR spectral data. It is indicated that mercury is directed to benzidine ring ortho to azomethine- N, group.en_US
