Abstract: The glutamic acid salicylaldehyde Schiff base cobalt Complex catalyzes the aerobic oxidation of linear aliphatic olefins, such as 1-octene, 1-decene, and 1-dodecene, to afford the corresponding 1,2-epoxyalkanes. The selectivity of 1,2-epoxyalkane is from 50% to 70%. It also catalyzes the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexene with formation of 2-cyclohexen-1-ol and 2-cyclohexen-1-one. The mechanism of the oxidation is discussed. The complex is environmentally attractive in the oxidation.
