Abstract: Chemical examination of the mangrove plant Avicennia officinalis collected from four different locations has resulted in the isolation of pentacyclic triterpenoids and steroids in common but no iridoids. The species collected from Sunderban Islands furnish in addition a naphtho furan, (-) avicennol C (1).
