Title: Synthesis and antibacterial activities of newer derivatives of pyrido[2,3-d; 6,5-d'] dipyrimidines

Abstract: An elegant one-pot synthesis of the title compounds 3a-f has been reported in good yields. Treatment of 1,3-diaryl-2-thiobarbituric acid with pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde and liquor ,ammonia in anhydrous ethanol for about 4hr affords the requisite 1,2,3,4,6,7 ,8,9-octahydro-l ,3,7,9-tetraphenyl-5-(2-pyrrolyl)-4,6-dioxo-2,8-dithio-10H,5H-pyrido[2 ,3-d;6,5-d'] dipyrimidines. All the synthesized compounds have also been screened for the antibacterial activities against Salmonella typhii and Aeromonas hydrophila.
