Title: Synthesis of pyrazoline, pyrimidine and 1,5-benzodiazepine derivatives of 1,8-naphthyridine and evaluation of antibacterial activity

Abstract: A series of 1-aryl:2,2-bis-(1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl)ethenes 4, 5-aryl-3-methyl-4-(1 ,8-naphthyridin-2-yl)-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolines 5, 5,6-dihydro-6-aryl-4-methyl-5-(1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl)-2-thioxopyrimidines 6 and 2,3-dihydro-2-aryl-4-methyl-3-(1,8-naphthyridi n-2-y l)-1 H-1,5-benzodiazepines 7 have been synthesized from 2-aminonicotinaldehyde 1 via α-(1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl) banzai acetones 3. The benzalacetones 3 have been readily obtained by the condensation of 1 with 3-arylideneacetylacetones 2. These compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, IR,1H NMR and MS. The compounds 4, 5 and 6 have been screened for their antibacterial activity.
