Abstract: The blend system of semi-crystalline poly(vinyledene fluoride) (PVDF) with amorphous poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) has been investigated in detail for understanding transient absorption current behaviour. Bilaterally aluminized solvent cast blend samples of various PVDF:PMMA compositions (100:00,90: 10, 80:20,70:30 wt%) were thermally charged with field ranging from 50 to 125 kV/cm at different temperatures (50-110°C). The observed time, poling temperature, poling field, and wt% blending composition dependence suggest that the transient behaviour is mainly governed by dipolar motion in the bulk samples. Further, in view of the semi-crystalline character of PVDF and the heterogeneous nature of blends, a definite contribution to such currents from charges hopping amongst the localized states, space charges and interfacial effects cannot be ruled out.
