Abstract: Electrochemical characterization of membranes has been attempted when permeation of electrolyte mixtures is involved. Mixed membrane potentials in conjunction with membrane conductance behaviour of cellulose acetate membrane using sodium chloride and potassium chloride solutions of variable composition have been investigated for this purpose. The results show that the presence of additional electrolyte even if its concentration is same on both sides of the membrane, significantly influences electrochemical character of the membrane.
