Title: Metal ion induced enhancement of emission of an organic fluorophore

Abstract: Metal ion induced fluorescence enhancement has been observed for the fluorophore 8,8a-diphenyl-1,2,3,5,6,8a-hexahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazine (DPHIP). A cationic 1:1 complex of copper(I) has been isolated with the fluorophore as the ligand and the complex has a fluorescence quantum yield much higher than that of DPHIP. The fluorescence study has been extended to two other d10 metal ions, viz., Zn2+ and Cd2+ and similar results have been obtained.
