Abstract: Photochemical reaction of 1,5-cyclooctadiene with Fe(CO)5 gives the complex 1,5-cyclooctadienetricarbonyIiron 1,which on treatment with Ph3CBF4 at room temperature affords the dienyl salt 1,5-cyclooctadienyltricarbonyliron tetrafluoroborate, [C8H11Fe(CO)3] +BF4- 2. 2-Bromomethyl-3-σ-methylenequoinoxaline sodiumtetracarbonylferrate [C8H4N2CH2BrCH2Fe(CO)4Na] 3 reacts with the dienyl salt in THF at low temperature to give a novel organometallic complex [C8H4N2CH2BrCH2Fe(CO)4]- [C8H11Fe(CO)3] 4 by ion pair annihilation reaction. Similarly, the dienyl salt on nucleophilic attack by metal carbonylate anion [Na2Fe(CO)4] 5 gives an organometallic complex [(C8H11)2Fe3(CO)10] 6 at – 10oC.
