Abstract: Equilibria of the axial ligation of methyl and ethyl(aquo)cobaloximes by various aliphatic amines (methylamine, ethylamine, propylamine, butylamine, pentylamine, hexylamine, cyclopentylamine, cyclohexylamine, cycloheptylamine, N,N-dimethylamine and N,N-di ethylamine) have been measured spectrophotometrically in aqueous solutions of ionic strength 1.0 M (KCl) at 25 °C as a function of pH. The order of equilibrium constants is discussed based on the basicity and steric factors. In addition to above, some of the methyl and ethyl (ligand)cobaloximes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV, IR and 1H NMR spectra.
