Abstract: The kinetics of oxidation of monosubstituted benzyl alcohol with polymer supported chromic acid in 1:4 dioxane has been studied. The reaction is found to be of zero order each in [alcohol] and [oxidant). The effect of substituent on the rate of oxidation and the thermodynamic parameters are evaluated. The reaction products have been isolated and characterised by their derivatives. A probable mechanism of oxidation is proposed.
