Abstract: The objective measurement of hand and related attributes offabrics which determine theirvalue to the consumer, has been well recognized by the manufacturing industriesand consumers. This paper describes in brief the concept of fabric objectivemeasurement and its potential in today's advanced, quality conscious and competitivemarket. The measurement principle and the various profitable application areasof objective evaluation offabrics are also described. In addition, a briefoutline of the instruments developed under thetrade name of KES andFAST systems for measuring fabric performance characteristics is given.
