Abstract: The production of international quality yarn is somewhat an uphill task for most of the spinners of Indian textile industry. The yarn export of this industry — with an installed capacity of about 26.59 million spindles, which is nearly 17% of world’s installed ring spindles — accounts for only 4% of the total export market. This paper attempts to clear some of the myths entertained by the spinners and highlights the methodology to be adopted to produce international quality yarn.
