Title: Synthesis and biological evaluation of some new 4,5-dihydro-3-(2-aryl-indol-3-yl)-5- (4-chlorophenyl)-N¹-phenylpyrazoles

Abstract: A facile and clean cyclization of indolylchalcone with phenyl hydrazine in glacial acetic acid occurs to afford 4,5-dihydro-3-(2-arylindol-3-yl)-5- (4-chlorophenyl)-N¹-phenylpyrazoles 5a-e in quantitative yield using 'Grindstone' technique. The results obtained indicate that, unlike classical heating, grinding method results in higher yields, shorter reaction time and cleaner reaction conditions. All the synthesized compounds have been characterized by their elemental analyses and spectral data (IR, ¹H NMR). Antibacterial and antifungal activity of all synthesized compounds have also been evaluated and some of them show promising results against E. coli, S. aureus, C. albicans and A. niger.
