Abstract: 1H and 13C NMR spectra are recorded for some N-aroyl (benzoyl, salicyloyl) hydrazones 1-9 derived from r(2),c(6)diphenylpiperidin-4-one, t(3)-methyl-r(2) , c(6)-diarylpiperidin-4-ones and r(2), c(6)-diphenyltetrahydrothiopyran-4-one and analysed in detail. The study reveals that these hydrazones exist as an equilibrium mixture of amido and imidol forms in solution. The observed chemical shift is the weighted average population of amido and imidol tautomeric forms. The effect of varying the substituents on the chemical shifts has been studied in detail.
