Title: Synthesis and characterization of heterobimetallic complexes of 1,8-dihydro- 1,3,6,8,10, 13-hexaazacyclotetradecane with Cu(II), Ni(II), Si(IV), Ge (IV) and Sn (IV) chlorides

Abstract: The synthesis and characterization of heterobimetallic species derived from Ni(II) or Cu(II) macrocyclic complexes of 14- membered hexaazamacrocycle,1 ,8-dihydro-1 ,3,6,8, 10, 13- hexaazacyclotetradecane with group (IV) metal chloride has been described. A direct reaction of Ni(II) or Cu(II) hexaazamacrocycle with group (IV) metal chloride in methanol resulted in the formation of bimetallic species of type M2C16H42N12M’Cl2(ClO4)4 [M = Ni(II) or Cu(II), M' =Si(IV), Ge(IV) and Sn(IV)]. The results show that group (IV) metal ions are bonded to Ni(II) or Cu(II) macrocycle at 1 or 8 position of the cyclam ring by metal-nitrogen covalent linkage. The complexes have been characterized by IR, EPR, 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR, electronic spectral studies, magnetic susceptibility, elemental analysis and molar conductance values. On the basis of spectral studies it has been concluded that the bimetallic complexation takes place through nitrogen which is further supported by far IR spectra. All the complexes show square planar geometry.
