Abstract: A spectrophotometric procedure for the determination of yttrium(III) using Arsenazo-I is described (λmax = 570 nm). The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 0-4×10-6 M (0-356 ngml-1). The lowest amount of ytt rium(III) that can be determined is 22 ngml-1. The procedure has been applied for the determination of yttrium(III) in the superconductor, YBa2CU3Oy (y = 6.5-6.9), with good results.
