dc.description.abstractChloromethylated polystyrene divinyl benzene (3%) has been functionalised through - NH-CH2 - bond with bis-(2- aminophenyl)disulfide. The resulting chelating resin has been characterised by elemental analyses, infrared spectra and metal ion capacity. The sorption capacities for both As(III) and As(V) have been determined using batch technique and they show a strong sorption at pH 4.5. The effect of the presence of co-existing ions have also been examined. The concentration of each of the arsenic species has been determined by HG-AAS. The sorption and desorption cycles have been examined using a column packed with the resin without any loss of column performance which indicates the possibility for its reuse. The developed column technique has been used for the removal of arsenic species from natural water.en_US
