Abstract: Partial molar volumes of ascorbic, citric and tartaric acids, at different concentrations have been determined in binary aqueous solutions of urea (1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 m of urea) at 298 K and in 1.0 m  urea at four equidistant temperatures. The data have been evaluated using Masson equation and the obtained parameters have been interpreted in terms of solute-solute and solute solvent interactions. The partial molar volumes vary with temperature as a power series of temperature. Structure making/breaking capacities of the organic acids have been inferred from the sign of [∂ 2ϕvo/∂T2]p, i.e. second de rivative of partial molar volume with respect to temperature at constant pressure. All the three organic acids behave as structure breakers in binary aqueous solutions of urea.
