Abstract: Describes a need to create a MM based information system in India to record and retrieve clinical images, associated audio, visual information, textual and numeric data for viral diseases. Advances in information management and technology are necessary for improved communication and research in the health services. A large number of population is affected with viruses and viral diseases and most of these are not very virulent due to various reasons. Due to increasing demand of the variety of the users (national and international) it has become essential to have a clinical information system for viral diseases in India. The aspects covered include poor utilisation of available information and poor communication facilities. A national overview of the effect of important viral diseases in the population have been included. Details of methodology, objective advantages, relationship with other form of databases are also described. Finally, some suggestions have been given to use same tehnique for other biomedical disciplines.
