Abstract: The feasibility of using starch and nonedible oil in synthesizing liquid polyols and their reaction with isocyanate adduct to form urethane coatings has been studied. It is found that the mechanical and chemical properties of the coatings are comparable with that of commercial polyester polyol based urethane coatings and are considerably influenced by the type of oil used with starch in polyol synthesis and the amount of isocyanate, i.e NCO:OH ratio.
