Abstract: An efficient isolate Pseudomonas sp. was isolated from soil by soil embadation technique which degraded and decolourised dyes belonging to triphenylmethane and azo group. Malachite green, fast green, brilliant green, congo red, and methylene blue were degraded in the range of 20-70 per cent within 24-40 h under aerobic conditions at pH 6-8 and between 30-40°C. The advantage of using microbial culture for decolourisation and degradation of triphenylmethane and azo group of dyes is apparent in providing a realistic approach for decolourising industrial effluent, particularly textile industry prior to its disposal.
