Title: Strong diffusion of protons by Pc1 waves

Abstract: Diffusion of energetic protons by L mode electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves in the Pc1 range is studied. It is found that L=4 (which is strong diffusion region for energetic electrons by VLF whistler mode waves) is a weak diffusion region and L 5.5 is a strong diffusion region for energetic protons. Different criteria to measure diffusion strength support this result. The result is in agreement with various theoretical and in situ observations.
