Title: First example of a carboxylato bridged Zn(II) polymer: Synthesis and structure of [Zn(dien)(CH3CO2)]n(CIO4)n (dien ≡ diethylenetriamine)

Abstract: The title compound crystallises in the  space group Pna21 with Z = 4. X-ray crystal structure shows that it is composed of  a quasi-one- dimensional polymeric chain cation [Zn(dien)(CH3CO2)]nn+ and perchlorate anions which are not bonded to the metal atoms. Each Zn atom is connected to two others in a chain by a single acetate bridge. The acetate group here adopts a syn- anti as well as a monoatomic  bridging mode.  The Zn(II) ion in each individual cation [Zn(dien)(CH3CO2)]+ has a distorted  octahedral  N3O3 coordination sphere.  It  is isostructural  with its copper(II) counterpart , [Zn(dien)(CH3CO2)]n(CIO4)n .
