Abstract: The kinetics of ammoximation of cyclohexanone by nitric oxide and ammonia, in vapour phase have been investigated over Al2O3.SiO2  catalyst in a differential flow reactor between 150 and 250°C. The rate equation r = k1 pc pa has been deduced which represents the data most satisfactorily for the conversion of cyclohexanone to caprolactam. A tentative reaction mechanism has been proposed.
