Title: Determination of equilibrium constant of Γ/C2O42- uni-bivalent ion exchange system using strongly basic anion exchanger Amberlite, IRA-400

Abstract: Equilibrium constant of the uni-bivalent system Γ/C2O42- has been determined using Amberlite IRA-400 resin at seven different concentrations of oxalate from 0.010 - 0.050 M. The apparent equilibrium constants (Kapp) for the system, the ratio of the activity coefficients of ions in the resin phase, and hence the standard equilibrium constant (Kstd) have been evaluated. The value of Kstd increases from 0.260 at 30.0oC to 0.355 at 45.0oC indicating the endothermic ion exchange reaction. Enthalpy of the ion exchange reaction has been calculated to be 14.5 kJmol-1.
