Abstract: A novel approach for the synthesis of 3,5,7-trisubstituted-4<i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">H</i>-[1,2]diazepine <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">5a-p</b> from α,β-unsaturated 1,5-diketone <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">4</b> by the condensation of substituted acetophenones <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">1</b> with 1,3-dicarbonyl compound <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">3</b> in the presence of sodium tertiary butoxide<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"> </b>has been described. The intermediate <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">4</b> reacts smoothly with hydrazine hydrate catalysed by PSSA in water under microwave irradiation to yield the product <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">5</b>.
