Abstract: Electrophoregrams of peroxidase and esterase were obtained in polyacrylamide gel for 6 leaf mutants (3 natural, 2 X-ray and 1 -ray induced mutants) of ‘tossa’ jute JRO-632 and, on their basis, dendrograms were generated to ascertain relationship between/among mutants. Two unique slow moving peroxidase bands (presumably of high mol wt), numbered as band 1 and 2, were helpful to identify two X-ray mutants from the -ray derived mutant and one specific natural mutant from other two natural mutants. The presence of esterase band 1 in only -ray induced mutant and not in X-ray induced mutants suggested the uniqueness of this slow moving high mol wt band that differentiates these two groups of mutants of different origin. Thus, these bands of high mol wt in peroxidase and esterase could serve as distinguishing reference band. Moreover, band of esterase numbered as 7 was expressed only in one of the X-ray mutant and, thus, differentiates between the both mutants. The cluster analysis from constructed dendrograms on the basis of 60% similarity revealed only two groups for peroxidase and five clusters for esterase.
