Abstract: Iodine has been found to catalyze the aza-Michael reaction of chalcones with weaker nucleophile carbamates. Although iodine alone can promote the reaction, addition of TMSCl enhances the yield of the product. A variety of chalcones have been reacted with benzyl carbamate to produce <span style="font-family:Symbol; mso-ascii-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-hansi-font-family:"times="" roman";="" mso-char-type:symbol;mso-symbol-font-family:symbol"="" lang="EN-GB">b-amino-carbonyl compounds in high yield. </span>
