Abstract: Iodine has been found to catalyze the aza-Michael reaction of chalcones with weaker nucleophile carbamates. Although iodine alone can promote the reaction, addition of TMSCl enhances the yield of the product. A variety of chalcones have been reacted with benzyl carbamate to produce b-amino-carbonyl compounds in high yield.
