|Abstract:||New Ga(III) complex of coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (HCCA) was synthesized and its structure and spectral properties were investigated by elemental analysis, FTIR, FT Raman and NMR measurements. According to the experimental data, the complex formula was suggested. Vibrational frequencies, IR intensities and Raman activities as well as 1H NMR chemical shifts of HCCA and its Ga(III) complex are presented. The comparative experimental vibrational and NMR analyses of both the ligand and the Ga(III) complex predicted the bidentate binding to Ga(III) through the deprotonated carboxylic oxygen and the carbonylic oxygen of the ligand. The recorded spectra and the marker bands of characteristic functional groups are identified, in order to use them as data bank for further application in trace analysis of newly synthesized metal complexes. The cytotoxic/cytostatic properties of the ligand and the newly synthesized complex were tested by MTT reduction assay against two mouse tumor cell lines: melanoma B16 and fibrosarcoma L929. They were also tested for cytotoxicity against normal mouse peritoneal macrophages. The proliferation inhibitory effect of the complex compared to that of the ligand proves its cytotoxic/cytostatic properties against both the tumor cell lines. In addition, the complex is less cytotoxic against normal mouse macrophages and is able to modulate NO release by activated macrophages. The obtained results are in accordance with our previously published data concerning the activity of lanthanide(III) complexes with coumarin derivatives.|
