Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family: " times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:="" en-gb;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="" lang="EN-GB">An efficient and rapid synthesis of 3-carboxycoumarins<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"> </b>has been expediently accomplished by a reaction of salicylaldehyde with Meldrum’s acid using potassium phosphate as an inexpensive catalyst at ambient temperature. </span>
