Abstract: PARAMJIT SINGH: The extinction of the species is a natural phenomenon. Seen on a geological time scale, it is estimated that over 95 percent of the species that existed on earth are no more present. It may be noted that ever since life appeared on the planet earth some 4000 million years ago, the process of speciation was interrupted by five distinct periods of “mass extinctions”.
