| Abstract: | A geographical indication (GI) is a certification that generates
competitive advantage and adds value to the product and region in which it
originates. Brazil,
as a major exporter of agricultural products, presents significant potential
for this type of protection taking into account cultural diversity, ecosystems
and typical gastronomy. However, the GIs are little known and exploited in the
country. This paper aims to present
an overview of the geographical indications in Brazil, including aspects of
legislation, actions being implemented, and the potential of the country to
protect GIs. |
